Essay: An Encounter with an Alien

An Encounter with an Alien

There was a knock on my door; I woke up to see before me a strange looking boy, with two antenna-like objects sticking out of his head over a hairy body. His owl-like round eyes resembled the characters I had just seen from Mars. I screamed in fright, but he said something in an alien language and gesticulated with his hands, indicating that he meant no harm. I stared at him in disbelief, unable to even scream.

Sensing that I was frightened, he gave me a translator to put on my ears that would allow me to understand his language. I learnt that he indeed had come from Mars. He wanted to take me to his friends and show me his planet. He extended his thin wiry like hand in friendship. Though he sounded friendly, I was scared because I knew not what would offend him.

He talked about life on Mars, telling me that it is much bigger than our planet earth, having its own solar system. They do not eat, for they survive on noble gases that are in abundance. I politely requested him to let me sleep, for I had to wake up early to attend school.

He reacted with alacrity. Snatching the translator from my hand, he pointed his gun at me and in a flash I was in flames . I screamed with all my might “Help, Help, this boy from Mars has killed me.” I suddenly felt a splash of cold water on my face. Opening my eyes I saw and realised that it was all but a dream.

Essay: My favorite writer

My favourite writer

There have been many great authors of fame in India.  Rabindranath Tagore is my favourite author. He wrote many novels, poems, short stories and  plays. He was also an educationalist, a social reformer, a musician and a religious preacher.

Rabindranath was a prominent figure in modern India. He is in the words of Prof.  Sarvapally Radhakrishnan“the greatest figure in the modern Renaissance.”

Tagore was born in a landlord family of Bengal at Kolkata on May 6, 1861. He did not attend any school or college.  He was educated in the most open university in the world. He started a magazine. He wrote books in Bengali till he was fifty years of age.

He went abroad at the age of 52.  People of other countries welcomed him as a noble ambassador of the Indian people. His book “Gitanjali '' won him the Nobel Prize in Literature.  The king of England gave him the title of “Sir” in 1915. He opened his own famous school at Shantiniketan. Later. This school became a centre of culture and university.

His poems are full of the beauty of nature, love of God and children. He is called the “Shelley of Bengal”. He is an inspired singer who sings because he cannot help singing. Out of his books of poems, the “Gitanjali” is the best.  His song, “Jan-Gan-Man” is our national anthem. One cannot forget his stories like “The Home-Coming”. In short, he is such a great writer as is born in a country only once in many countries.

Thank you....

Essay: My Dream

My Dream

Everyone wants to be successful in their life so “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe. I also dream of becoming successful in the field I choose although I am still indecisive about the career path I will choose. But I know whatever I choose I will work hard, stay focused and make it big.

It is rightly said, Miracles start to happen when you give as much energy to your dreams as you do to your fears”. Dreams are essential. It is only when you dream big with all your heart you will be able to achieve big. As students our dream is to achieve good marks, have good friends, get support from the family and make it big in life.

I also dream of doing something for my country and I dream of eradicating poverty and social inequality from our country and will do my best in this direction. If we all join hands we shall certainly be able to free our country from these evils. There are so many problems in the country such as poverty, illiteracy and casteism to name a few. Our country was once known for its rich cultural heritage which is all robbed now.

The crime rate in the country is at an all time rise and so are various other issues. While there are a lot of loopholes in the India political system that have led to these problems however we cannot blame it all on the government. Each one of us should contribute our bit towards our country’s development.

Hydraulophone and Pyrophone

An Unusual and Interesting Instruments

Hydraulophone

A hydraulophone is a musical instrument in which sounds are created by flowing water. Steve Mann says that the idea for creating a hydraulophone developed gradually in the 1980s. It's an unusual and interesting device that can be very expressive when played by a skilled musician. The general public can also create music with the instrument. It's fun and easy to play, although a skilled player can produce a wider variety of sounds than a beginner.

Pyrophone

A pyrophone, also known as a "fire/explosion organ" or "fire/explosion calliope" is a musical instrument in which notes are sounded by explosions, or similar forms of rapid combustion, rapid heating, or the like, such as burners in cylindrical glass tubes, creating light and sound.

It was invented by physicist and musician Georges Frédéric Eugène Kastner (born 1852 in Strasbourg, France - died 1882 in Bonn, Germany), son of composer Jean-Georges Kastner, around 1870.
