(13) What are called the tides and ebbs?
The Sea water rises and falls twice during a day when the Sea water rises it is Called 'Tide' and when it falls is called 'Ebb’.
(14) What is the time interval between two tides?
The period between two tides is about 12 hours and 25 minutes.
(15) When do the spring (high) and neap (low) tides occur?
The Spring (high) tide occurs on new moon day and full moon (Poonam) moon for days and the neap (low) tide occurs on the middle days of Sud and Vad.
(16) What is meant by an ocean current?
In some areas of the Ocean, a large water mass flows like a river in a specific direction, which is called an Ocean current.
(17) Where do the warm currents originate from and towards where do they flow?
The main causes of currents are solar energy; wind, Salinity of Sea-water and rotation of the earth. Mostly hot currents move from the equator to the poles.
(18) Where do the cold currents generally originate from and towards where do they flow?
Cold Currents move from the poles to the equator. The main causes of current Solar energy. (old Currents originate are (from) near the poles.
(19) What is meant by 'Pollution?
Human beings use their intellect to use various components of the environment to satisfy their needs. Gandhiji Said that pollution is the act of polluting the natural environment through human activities.

The components polluting the environment are called pollutants.
(21) What is meant by land pollution?
The changes in the quality of Land or Soil or in its nutritive elements is called land Pollution.
(22) What is called water pollution?
When water becomes unsuitable for its intended use and external impurities are mixed with it, it is called water pollution.
(23) What is called air pollution?
Emission of gas or flames from industries, factories, thermal power plants etc into the atmosphere causes air pollution.
(24) Which pollution Irritability in human nature?
Irritability in the nature of human life is the effect of noise pollution.
6. Answer the following questions briefly:
(1) What is meant by environment?
The environment is made up of two words: "Pari" and "Avaran". Pari means all around "Avaran' means cover. Thus, Paryavaran ie. environment means Cover. Thus, Paryavaran i. e, environment means the cover of natural components surrounding earth from all sides.
(2) Which are the types of natural environments? What is included in them?
There are two types of natural environment: (1) Biotic and Abiotic . The natural environment includes biological (biotic) components like fiora, fauna and human beings. Inorganic (abiotic) components like land, water etc.
(3) Which are major air pollutants? Emission of gas on fumes from industries, factories, thermal power plants etc into the atmosphere causes air pollution. Airborne particles such as Coal particles used as fuel, Carbonate Compounds obtained From factory fumes result in air pollution. The fumes of vehicles emit air pollutants like co2
(4) Mention three effects of noise pollution.
The main three effects of noise pollution are as: (1) Noise Pollution Causes deafness in a person adverse effect on mental healths, irritability in nature, reduces the ability to work. (2) Excessive noise kills many insects and micro organisms. (3) Sometimes noise pollution causes high BP of the human body.
(5) Mention any two activities polluting the environment.
The two activities are as: (1) Natural disasters Such as Volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, river floods, etc. also pollute the environment (2) The Scrap of the Satellites Launched into Space, hollow bodies of the Space Crafts, useless pieces of metals, the waste abandoned by the astronauts in Space, etc Cause the Pollution in space. (3) various chemicals sprayed to bring artificial rain etc.
7. Answer the following questions:
(1) Mention any five measures to prevent land (soil) pollution.
(1) Instead of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, organic and indigenous fertilizer, green manure should be used. (2) pesticides and excessive use of Chemical fertilizers and insecticides in agriculture also pollutes the land. (3) when the Solid waste and the effluents from the industries are discharged on the ground creates hand pollution.(4) Land becomes polluted due to the mining and construction activities. (5) The Polythene bags, plastic bottles thrown on the ground becomes very risky for the micro organisms which make the land very fertile. Thus, land pollution is caused in many ways.
(2) Mention any four measures to prevent water pollution.
The measures to prevent water pollution are as follows:
1) The water from the gutters of domestic uses should be disposed of far into the river or the sea after the impurities within them are purified in the Sewage water plants.
(2) The government should make strict controls for the disposal of polluted water. (3) The polluted water used in the industries should be purified first and then only it should be disposed off (4) New technology should be invented to reduce or to prevent the water pollution and necessary treatment should be taken.
(3) State any four measures to prevent air pollution.
The measures to prevent air pollution are as follows:
(1) To prevent air pollution, the govern-ment should form laws and strictly enforce them. (2) Equipment for filtering. Smoke and toxic gas should be developed. (3) (Coal, Petrol, diesel etc. should be used as per requirement only (4) The use of pollution free CING, PNG, Solar energy etc. Should be encouraged. 8. Write geographical reasons of the following statements:
(1) Tides and ebbs occur in the sea.
Twice a day sea-level rises and falls periodically. This phenomenon of rising and falling of the sea is called Tide and Ebb. At the time of high tide sea water bulges to the shore while at the time of Ebb' the sea water returns to the sea from the shore. The time interval between two tides. is about 12:25 hours.
The moon tide occurs on the earth due to the gravitational force of the sun and the moon. The mass of the Sun is more than moon but it is far away from the earth so the gravitational force of the moon is more on the earth. Different parts of the earth face the sun and the moon at different times.
(2) Spring (High) tide occurs in the sea on New moon (Amavas) and Full moon (Poonam) day.
On the day of the new moon (Amavas) and the full moon and the moon(Poonam), the sun, the earth come almost in a straight line. This Condition results in Spring (high) tide, But when the moon is in its' first and last quarter the gravitational Pull reduces to resulting in low tides.
